was researching old survey records of government land, and noticed a discrepancy in the records. The area was surveyed by two different parties working towards each other, and according to the records, met at a section corner. From the descriptions, I noticed what each party claimed as the corner were not identical. There was a sliver of land, a long narrow triangle about 2 meters at the base and about 20 meters long. I referred it to the local head surveyor, who scratched his head and sent it further up the food chain. A couple weeks later I heard back, and everyone was shrugging and laughing. Government attorneys looked at it, records archivists got involved, and in the end determined under the existing laws and titles, the parcel did not legally exist. No one owned it because there was nothing to own. It ‘fell between the cracks’ of all land ownership laws. It was a remote area, and I hiked into it. There was nothing of value there, a few shrubs, mostly bare dirt on a steep slope. Not even a tree was in the parcel.

As far as I know it still has the same status. It was deemed to small to worry about and is not creating any problems for the government or the adjacent landowner — a timber company.
