My cousin and I were riding on our bike.
Father had sent us to get some official documents from a man who was to meet us at a particular square.
The place was hardly a kilometre from home and hence we didn't bother carrying our helmet.
When we were about to reach the square, we noticed traffic cops and police officials carrying out extensive checks.

No helmet. No driving licence. No registration certificate. We were anxious.
Somehow we managed to cross the square to get on the opposite road. Escaped merely.
We waited for the man to come with the documents.
All this while we were planning on how to escape from this predicament unscathed. We hardly had any extra money with us.
The man came, verified us, handed the documents and left.
Now was the real battle of crossing the square unharmed. There was no other way around. We had no option but to take the same road.
Both of us thought of something and tried giving it a shot. Probably that was the only option.
My cousin switched off the engine. We both got down off the bike and began dragging it until we reached the square where two traffic cops (TC) stopped us.
TC 1 (chewing tobacco): What happened?
Cousin (seriously): Nothing. We ran out of fuel.
TC 2 (spitting tobacco): There's a petrol pump. You can go there.
Cousin (calmly): We don't have money.
Silence for few seconds.
By now we had started dragging our bike from the place. Both of us trying to control our smiles.
TC 1 to TC 2: They are making a fool of us. This is now a new technique that I am witnessing.
We turned back to look at the cops who were wickedly smiling at us. We couldn't control our laughter.
We kept dragging the bike until we were out of their sight. We escaped unscathed. We had successfully fooled them.
Edit: Many people have upvoted this but what makes me more interested are the comments where people are talking about the foolishness on our part to not wear the helmet. Almost all comments cover the same.
Yes, that was a foolish act. I do agree. My parents agreed. My brother agreed. My younger sister agreed. None of them saw any sort of humor in this.
Always be well equipped while riding your vehicle. Don't let the need of such ‘presence of mind' arise
